I Love Books

I’ve always been an avid reader.

From the days of the bookmobile parking in my trailer park to last week when I was wandering the aisles of our local library, my curiosity has continuously been served by finding just the right book.

But it’s more than entertainment. My life has been shaped by the books I’ve read.

“Five years from today, you will be the same person that you are today, except for the books you read and the people you meet.”

CHARLIE “TREMENDOUS” JONES

In my early twenties, I was in a “complicated” relationship. Rather than continuously aggravating my friends with my ping-pong of internal debate matches ("Should I stay or should I go?"), I became a researcher looking for answers in the non-fiction aisles. I checked out a book called “Too Good to Leave, Too Bad to Stay,” by Mira Kirshenbaum. There really is a book for everything. This was just a sampling of my study on the subject, but the fact that the book was only slightly hidden in our shared small apartment was probably the best evidence as to the direction I would take.

The A-Ha! List

During The Tina Club’s recent yoga retreat, we talked a bit about books that have inspired us in some way. I wanted to share a few here. As I go back to them, I’ll post more thoughts, but for now, what catches your eye? Have you read any of these already? I’d love to know what you think!

  • Everything is Figureoutable by Maria Forleo
  • Yoke: My Yoga of Self-Acceptance by Jessamyn Stanley
  • Free Time: Lose the Busywork, Love your Business by Jenny Blake
  • Zen in the Age of Anxiety: Wisdom for Navigating our Modern Lives by Tim Burkett
  • Rest: Why you Get More Done When You Work Less

I will be perusing more enlightening titles with my free Scribd trial. You can read or listen for free for 30 days by clicking here.
