Yoga Notes: My SELF Practice
Tina Haapala | JAN 21, 2023

Today, I practiced what I preached. I gave myself time for my SELF.
Caring for my Self today consisted in sticking to my previously scheduled yoga classes. Yup, classes! This week, I taught 1-2 classes each day. I usually end with some variation of “thank yourself for getting to your mat today” because I know how important it is.
So, today, I’m thanking my Self for rolling out my mat.
My first class was with the amazing Sara at Balance. Although I’ve promised myself that I will focus on being a student during my practice, the thoughts make their way in: “Oh, this is so cool…I hope I can teach this well someday…”
And then, part of the practice is to notice myself thinking that and bring my mind and body back to the moment. And the movement.
It was phenomenal.
Later, after some Saturday chores, I made my way back to Balance for New Moon Gong Yoga Nidra with Adam. I’m currently working on my certification for Nidra, but the addition of sound healing with the gong is especially therapeutic to me. I’m sure Adam could go into more specifics about how the vibrations and the frequency of the sound work, but really, I just want to experience it today. Not analyze it.
My times on the mat today weave together with what I’ve been working on in my own meditation practice (observing the self and staying in the moment) and also what I hope to learn how to convey to my students and/or those who practice with me.
