Practicing gentle awareness on the mat can translate to our day-to-day lives. For example, I’m writing this as I fly above Texas. Earlier, my flight from Dallas was delayed. “The temperature is above 100 degrees in the cabin,” the announcement was made minutes before the initial boarding, “We are working to cool the plane to a safe level before we board. Please stay close by, and we will keep you updated.”

The same or similar announcement was made a few more times over the next hour, until the final announcement that the plane refused to cool down, so they were taking the plane business elsewhere.

Traveling can be stressful, but I noticed something as I continued receiving both the notifications on my phone and updates over the airport speakers. I wasn’t stressed out. I complained about it on a Facebook status, but it was a “gentle complaint.”

“I trained for this!” I imagined the Rocky theme in the background as I looked around at my fellow passengers.

Here’s to hoping you can find some gentle awareness in your everyday “struggles."
