Conquering Chaos: Stacking My Way to More Yoga (and Everything Else)

Where does the time go? And I'm not just talking about the one hour we recently skipped over... Our day is full of things to mark off the to-do list. Some of those errands can create a time-sucking black hole if you aren't mindful of how you attempt to mark them off. There are ways to turn that chaos into calm productivity. I love spending time in the art of "stacking."

For years, I've been a champion of the errand stack. It's simple: group errands geographically. Need to hit the dry cleaners? Is there a grocery store nearby? Boom – double whammy! You save time on travel and free yourself up for more important things, like self-care.

This approach has become a personal productivity mantra, and now, I'm going to use it to squeeze in some bonus yoga!

Here's the plan: on Mondays and Tuesdays, when my schedule allows, I'm stacking a bonus yoga class before my regularly scheduled classes at Great Scott Yoga.

Why am I doing this?

  • The 6 pm time slot at Great Scott has been a staple since the studio opened. It's great to have that consistency to plan around. But some weeks, like this one (Spring Break for many), people have the opportunity to make it to yoga earlier. So maybe the Bonus Yoga can work into your "errand stack" this week or next.
  • Before I started at Great Scott, I didn't enjoy teaching in the evenings. My energy level tends to be a bit lower, especially if I have had a break between other work or classes before 6. However, my energy stays just right if I have gotten into my "flow" (no yogi pun intended) in the hour or hours before.
  • Bonus classes are a way to add some surprises. This week, I'm planning a Monday Yin class (similar to this) and a Tuesday Flow + Restore class. They are a little different than my usual offerings at Great Scott, so it's a fun chance to try something different.

How is this different than the regular classes?

The beauty of stacking is its versatility. It works for errands, workouts, and even social calls. As a multi-passionate entrepreneur, I'm always looking for ways to be more efficient and still peaceful with my time.

Next time you're feeling overwhelmed, take a step back and see if you can creatively stack some tasks. You might be surprised at how much more you can accomplish (and how much more relaxed you can be doing it!). Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a client's travel itinerary calling my name.
