"Best" Foot Forward

My brother and sister-in-law multi-task during their TV time, and during my recent visit, I joined in on their self-care sessions. We talked, watched a show or movie, and soaked our tired feet. Even if you aren't a yoga instructor or in another profession that keeps your bare feet on hard floors, your feet support the burden of moving from place to place. When you are standing or walking, how your feet feel can affect everything else--from the ground up.
As you stand in mountain pose, bring your awareness to your feet. Are all four corners attached to the earth? Are your feet creating a solid foundation? As you bring your awareness up, notice how a shift feels for your joints: your knees, your hips, etc. Yoga is an awareness exercise. I became aware that my feet were pretty beat up, and I needed to allow time to "pamper" them. These feet are part of my work, so I need to treat them like a chef would her best knives, or an artist would clean his best brushes.
Are you taking care of your foundation? I sometimes get so wrapped up with all of the "tasks" in my head (ie thoughts about what the future holds and worries about what my next move may mean) that I forget to get back to the basics. All those tasks can't move forward without me bringing my focus back to earth. I need to take the first step, on solid ground, to move forward.
