A Yogi Walks Into A Bar...

You may be asking yourself: Why is Tina holding a ridiculously large beer?

And: I thought this was a yoga blog; what is going on?

I’ll start with the second question.

Yes, this is a yoga blog. AND I’m all about incorporating everything I learn and teach on the mat into the real world. Or, in this case, Las Vegas.

Joining the mug-holding contest was my yoga for that moment because:

  • I used the strength of my body and my mind to stay steady. Yes, it was heavy. But the weight of the words in my head that may have been saying, “Give Up,” had to be observed, then ignored.
  • I kept my mind focused on my “mat” and didn’t compare myself to others. Yes, I was the only woman*, so I was already an outlier. But I had to focus on what I could achieve and not how it compared to anyone else. (That said, I feel pretty good about not being the first one out! And I am perfectly happy about being the second one out, lol!).
  • The weekend was an act of creating balance in my life. I’ve been working on creating new programs, promoting the next retreat, and developing a roadmap for the next year of my business. It lead to many long days, and I needed to step away.

Maybe Vegas isn’t your idea of a reinvigorating getaway but take some time to recognize what may be a good way to reset. Is it practicing yoga, reading a good book, or taking a long walk? Find something. And give yourself the time to do it.

*That may have been one of the reasons I volunteered; I wanted to root for the female contestant, but when there wasn’t one, I had to cheer for myself.
